Change is gonna come
you better welcome it
change is gonna come
and it is gonna set you free
---Mates of State "change"

Some shots of my NYE bar set up, I mixed glitter, natural fibers, and vintage pieces to create this festive bar!

::::::Use a tapestry, curtain, or patterned sheet as a backdrop behind the bar:::::::::
::::::Place a chalkboard with the backdrop to customize the occasion::::::
::::::::Mix different fibers for texture and to add interest, Here I used burlap, glitter paper, and a natural grasscloth:::::::
::::::display stemware on trays for practicality and to distinguish sections on bar, when serving simply pick the whole tray instead of individual glasses:::::::
::::::Use Items you already have, the liquor is placed in a vintage milk carrier, straws in a stemless wine glass with rhinestones (from the craft drawer) vintage silver bowl for bar accessories::::::

Raid the house for any different containers to display the items you need to place on the bar to save money and give new life to those items!

HAPPY 2014!!!!

Spiked Eggnog

There are countless reasons the holidays are so great, family time, parties, great food, great drinks. These give us the excuse to eat a plate of cookies for lunch not only because its the holiday season, but we also have to get it all out of our system before the new years resolutions (that will last a week) begin!!!
The holiday season also means...eggnog season!
There is nothing better than sitting by a warm fire on a snowy day with a good glass of eggnog! To add a little kick to traditional out of the carton eggnog, follow this easy spiked eggnog recipe for any holiday party, family get together or an afternoon treat!

Mix raw sugar, cinnamon and nutmeg
Rim glass with mixture, dipping edge in the bourbon allowing it to stick

1 part Vanilla Infused Bourbon to 2 parts Eggnog
pinch of ground cinnamon
pinch of ground nutmeg
tiny splash of vanilla extract (if desired)
sprinkle cinnamon, sugar, nutmeg mixture over top

Serve this winter drink in festive glasses with a sparkly straw or cinnamon stick!

The sun that brief December day
Rose cheerless over hills of gray,
And, darkly circled, gave at noon
A sadder light than waning moon.
Slow tracing down the thickening sky
Its mute and ominous prophecy,
A portent seeming less than threat,
It sank from sight before it set.

Vanilla infused Bourbon

Gifting on a budget? Here is an easy and inexpensive DIY gift for the holidays. If you are going to a party, this would be a great host gift and its different from the same ole bottle of wine, or flowers! While making this Brûléed Bourbon-Maple Pumpkin Pie I did not want to waste the vanilla pods after using only the beans, inspiring this bourbon infusion!

Vanilla bean
mason jar

Place vanilla in jar, add bourbon
Allow flavors to infuse for at least 24 hours before gifting, or using.
NOTE: After using vanilla for this Brûléed Bourbon-Maple Pumpkin Pie I used the extra Bourbon and Vanilla pods for this infusion.

Mason Jar
Pine cone
Fresh Pine
>>Use a hot glue gun to assemble

Never underestimate those hole in the wall strip mall stores. Sometimes you can find treasures, like this fur vest I found in a "designer" outlet store that was going out of business. Although the metallic leopard print mom jeans and bedazzled t-shirt were not worth looking at, this $15 faux fur vest could not be passed up! So next time you see the "designer" discount outlet store next to an antique mall, don't be scared to check it out, chances are you may find a costume at least!
